On May 12th, the Founding Conference of the University Alliance for Cross-Strait Prevention and Reduction of Natural Disasters & Sustainable Development cum The 1stHigh-end Academic Forum was held in the Disaster Management and Reconstruction College of SCU. There are over 300 participants: the alliance members, specialist and scholars from relevant organizations of SCU and relevant fields, as well as representatives of professorss and students across the strait.

President Xie Heping of SCU addressed the conference. A working staff of the Conference read the Proposal for the University Alliance for Cross-Strait Prevention and Reduction of Natural Disasters & Sustainable Development. Representatives of the founding units of the Alliance, including Sichuan University, the Hong Kong Polytechnic University, the Hong Kong Jokey Club, the University of Macau, the Macau University of Science and Technology, Taiwan University, the Taiwan University of Science and Technology and the Beijing Normal University, signed the Regulations of the Alliance and the Proposal on the stage. They also unveiled the nameplate of the Alliance. Then, representatives of the founding units expressed their best wishes to the University Alliance for Cross-Strait Prevention and Reduction of Natural Disasters & Sustainable Development.

During the 1st High-end Academic Forum, over 50 specialists and scholars from universities and scientific research institution across the strait had in-depth discussion and exchange on the topic of “realizing sustainable ecological development, building green resilient towns”; the forum was divided into four subjects including construction of safe and resilient towns, realizing sustainable development of green economy, establishment of disaster prevention and control system and creating a healthy ecological environment.
