On April 17, Ms. Meaghan Shaw, Australian Consul-General in Chengdu, and her delegation visited Sichuan University (SCU). Wang Jinsong, President of SCU, met the guests in the VIP Hall of the Mingde Building on Wangjiang campus. Ms. Katie O’Rourke, Australian Deputy Consul-General in Chengdu, Liu Chao, Vice President of SCU, and heads of relevant units attended the event.

On behalf of the university, Wang Jinsong warmly welcomed the delegation and briefly introduced SCU. He pointed out that, in recent years, SCU has forged strong partnerships with renowned Australian universities, including the University of Melbourne, the University of Western Australia, Monash University and so forth, which has made significant strides in faculty and students exchanges, as well as scientific research. He expressed the hope that both sides would deepen cooperation in talent cultivation, collaborative research across multiple disciplines, achieving high-quality development of higher education in both China and Australia.
Ms. Meaghan Shaw expressed her appreciation for the university’s warm reception. She stated that SCU is a century-old institution with a rich heritage. Australia attaches great importance to its collaboration with SCU. Through this visit, she hoped to further promote in-depth cooperation between SCU and Australian universities and research institutions, broaden the international perspectives of young people from both countries, and enhance their cross-cultural communication skills, thereby making greater contribution to deepening China-Australia friendship.
