From May 10thto 13th, the Chinese Academy of Engineering co-hosted the 246th
China Engineering Science and Technology Forum and Tenth National Earthquake Prevention Engineering Seminar at Sichuan University. More than 40 academicians and 800 other experts from across China in the fields of earthquake prevention engineering, education, design, manufacturing, and construction joined the event. Professor Xu Weilin, Vice President of Sichuan University, gave the opening address. SCU President Li Yanrong, Vice-Governor of Sichuan Province, Yao Sidan, and Academician Li Xiaohong each addressed the forum in turn.
Falling on the tenth anniversary of the Wenchuan earthquake of 2008, the forum brought together nine academicians and 33 other prominent experts in their respective fields of engineering to discuss new technologies and applications in earthquake prevention measures. Each of the 42 experts gave a separate talk. The forum and seminar focused on issues such as properties of seismic waves, surveys and analyses, analyzing seismic defenses in architectural design, shock absorption measures, and emergency response and reconstruction work, among other topics. In important ways, this event contributed to the spread and better understanding of knowledge surrounding disaster management and seismic defense engineering in science and industry, as well as at the administrative levels.
