SCU Led the Formation of the Sino-German Innovation Platform of “Clean Energy”

On behalf of SCU, Academician Xie Heping, president of SCU, signed a cooperation agreement for building Sino-German Innovation Platform “Clean Energy” as well as an agreement on joint cultivation project for doctoral students in collaboration with the Clausthal University of Technology on April 10th. The signing ceremony was attended by Prof. Wan Gang, vice-chairman of the CPPCC and the minister of the Ministry of the Science and Technology of the People's Republic of China, Mr. Schütte, executive vice minister of the Federal Ministry of Education and Research of Germany, Mr. Schneider, the Finance Minister of the Lower Saxony, Germany, Prof. Dong Qi, the minister-counsellor of the Education Office, Embassy of the People’s Republic of China to Germany and Prof. Yan Shijing, vice-president of SCU.

Mr. Wan Gang addressed in his speech that: “As an open platform of scientific research cooperation between China and Germany, the Sino-German Innovation Platform ‘Clean Energy’ attracts universities, scientific research institutions and enterprises, helping to set an example in research fields, such as clean energy and renewable energy sources.”

During their tour in Germany, Minister Wan Gang and President Xie Heping visited the Energy Research Center and Battery Center of Lower Saxony in Goslar. Besides, President Xie Heping also attended the “Sino-German Cooperation Seminar” on invitation, discussing specific projects and working plan under the framework of Sino-German Innovation Platform “Clean Energy”, especially the possibilities of further cooperation in the aspects of energy, environment, material and Industrie 4.0, etc.

The Sino-German Innovation Platform “Clean Energy”, under the support of by MOST of the People's Republic of China, is organized jointly by SCU and the Clausthal University of Technology, and sponsored by many universities, scientific research institutions and energy enterprises in Germany and China, including: the Yalong River Hydropower Development Company, Ltd., the University of Mining and Technology of China, Southwest Petroleum University, Institute of Rock and Soil Mechanics of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, Institute of Geology and Geophysics of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, Institute of Prospecting Technology of Chinese Academy of Geological Sciences, PetroChina, Sinopec, Energy Research Center of Lower Saxony, Germany (EFZN), Helmholtz-Centre Potsdam - German Research Centre for Geosciences (GFZ), Helmholtz Centre for Environmental Research (UFZ), Fraunhofer Heinrich Hertz Institute (Fraunhofer HHI) and Siemens. The project is scheduled to be launched in 2017, and be finished in three stages (9 years in total).The purpose of the Sino-German Innovation Platform “Clean Energy” is to carry out theme scientific research and academic exchange activities including carbon dioxide utilization and storage, multiple transformations of unstable excessive renewable energy, underground energy storing, deep-seated geothermal power generation and heating, as well as integrated technology of energy storage, deep rock mechanics and Jinping experimental base of microorganism in the process of platform construction. Adhering to the principles of “equal cooperation, advantage complementation, technology innovation, bottleneck breakthrough, mutual benefit and reciprocity, achievement sharing, property right negotiation and independent finance”, the platform will conduct substantial cooperation, thus benefiting both countries in the domains of clean energy development.

Vice-president Yan Shijing and officers of the International Affairs Office of SCU also joined the visit.
