West China Canadian School Museum of SCU is Officially Opened

Date:2016/11/14

November 9th, the West China Canadian School Museum was officially opened in Zhidetang, Huaxi campus, Sichuan University.

Zhidetang, used to be a Canadian School, was once a full-time school founded by Canadian educational and medical missionaries in 1915,to meet the demand of their children’s education. After the completion of “West China Canadian School Museum”, Sichuan University especially invited them back to Huaxi, and to Zhidetang (the 7thteaching building) where they lectured or attended classes.

In 1910, the United Church of Canada established West China Union University in Chengdu, which has not only left the Huaxiba architectural complex, a symbol of communication and combination of Chinese and Western architecture and culture, to us, but laid a solid basis for the medical achievements of Sichuan University. It had cultivated numerous elites for China in medical and educational fields. The Canadian experts and professors, who used to work in Huaxiba, spared no effort in contributing to the foundation and development of medical science of Huaxi. They initiated the modernization of education in western China, and have turned into a significant milestone in China-Canada cultural exchange.

Sichuan University has never forgotten those Canadian friends who had spent half a century and the best of their life in education and medicine in Huaxi, and have left a unique and precious memory here. West China Canadian School Museum, serves not only a great token of the friendship between China and Canada, but also an immortally precious spiritual wealth to Sichuan University.
