Carlo Petrini, President of Slow Food International Visits SCU

June 22nd, Carlo Petrini, the founder and president of Slow Food International, paid a visit to Sichuan University to talk over building a University of Gastronomic Sciences with SCU. Xie Heping, President of SCU, accompanied by Vice-President Yan Shijing and relevant personnel, met with the guests.

Having highlighted SCU’s construction and research in disciplines including life and health, Xie Heping noted that, both as ancient civilizations, China and Italy are closely bonded thanks to the ancient Silk Road; especially in the recent years, the high-level visits between the two countries are increasingly frequent, the exchanges between the peoples of various levels are increasingly closer, and the cooperation in various fields between both countries are increasingly booming. SCU would like to take this meeting as an opportunity to promote the dissemination of Chinese culture, and make due and positive contributions to promoting the comprehensive strategic partnership between the two countries, through the “Belt and Road” international cooperation platform, he added.

Carlo Petrini expressed in the meeting that, SCU is a first-rate university located in western China; this visit is intended to facilitate academic exchanges in slow food culture with SCU, and explore cooperation in personnel training, gastronomic science and technology projects and some other sections; and they want to take this opportunity to promote settle-down of the academic base of slow food in Chengdu.

During the meeting, Carlo Petrini granted SCU a partnership certificate for “University of Gastronomic Sciences”.

In the afternoon, Carlo Petrini delivered a wonderful lecture themed with “Slow Food Movement and Food, Health and Environment "to SCU students.

About: Slow Food International advocates actively inheriting culture and protecting environment by producing and consuming “good, clean and fair food”. It has been turned into one of the most influential food culture organizations in the world, with over 83,000 members in over 800 branches worldwide. In this September,the7thInternational Slow Food Festivalwill be held in Asia for the first time. As one of the major events held during the 14th Chengdu International Food & Tourism Festival, the Slow Food Festival is expected be attended by more than 600 representatives from over 90 countries and regions.
