June 15th, afternoon, President Xie Heping met with Sergei Mikhailovich Dmitriyev, President of Nizhny Novgorod State Technical University, right before the second session of the Council for Cooperation between the Upper and Middle Reaches of the Yangtze River in China and Federal Districts along the Volga River in Russia.
President Xie said that Sichuan University and Nizhny Novgorod State Technical University were both leading universities of the ‘University League of Two River Drainage Basins’ in China and Russia respectively; with broad prospects for cooperation, the universities should take joint action to create a diversified talent training base and a high-end think tank to provide more intellectual support for economic development of the region and the deepening of Sino-Russian relations. Sichuan University hopes to take this opportunity to deepen the cooperation with Russia, and help more schools, departments and majors to find new growth points in Russia.
Sergei Mikhailovich Dmitriyev echoed Xie’s view points, noting that Nizhny Novgorod State Technical University has established and maintained close relations with Chengdu, and with Sichuan University, nuclear power institute and some other units in this city; as the University League provides a very broad platform to further mutual cooperation, the two universities should give full play to their respective advantages and ‘make every effort to promote regional cooperation’ through joint project application, joint research and other means.
President Sergei Mikhailovich Dmitriyev was about to celebrate his 60th birthday, Sichuan University delegation specially prepared a birthday cake for him and expressed its best wishes. Sergei Mikhailovich Dmitriyev was deeply touched, “this is one of my most memorable birthdays and I will always remember President Xie Heping and the counterparts from Sichuan University for everything they have done for me.”
