In a move to speed up the construction of a double first-class university and learn experience from the world-class universities, a SCU delegation led by President Li Yanrong and Vice President Xu Weilin paid a visit to the National University of Singapore, Nanyang Technological University, Chiba University, Waseda University, Tohoku University, Seoul National University and Yonsei University from May 6 to May 14, 2019. This series of visits aimed at expanding the cooperation between SCU and the top universities in Asia, especially the students exchange. Also, the delegation made a field study about the management of these comprehensive universities and their interdisciplinary integration experience and practice, especially the integration of medical science and engineering. The delegation was warmly welcomed by these universities.

During the visit, President Li briefly introduced Sichuan University and the ideas on double first-class university construction, and conducted fruitful discussions with these universities on strengthening the disciplinary construction, innovating the partnership development, and expanding the fields of cooperation to create the world's first-class disciplines, etc.

On May 7th, Prof. Subra Suresh, President of Nanyang Technological University, and Prof. Andrew WEE, Vice President of National University Singapore, held friendly communications with the visiting delegation. Prof. Subra briefed the vision of its future education and the background of the College of Medicine, NTU, and expressed the hope that both institutions could conduct more in-depth and extensive cooperation through mutual efforts. Prof. Andrew introduced the history and development of the NUS and the successful operation of the Medicine College. The interdisciplinary integration, esp. on the integrtion of medical science and engineering, and the management of large-scale comprehensive universities were also on the agenda of the meeting. During his visit in Singapore, President Li Yanrong went to see SCU students who studied at NUS, and met with the representatives of Singapore Alumni Association, encouraging them to pay more attention and support the development of SCU. On May 9th, the delegation visited Chiba University and had a cordial meeting with President Tokuhisa Takeshi and Vice President Watanabei Makoto. The two sides conducted in-depth discussions on the “Top Global University Project” and the cooperation in the medical field. When visiting Waseda University, both sides held a meeting in a sincere and friendly atmosphere. President Aiji Tanaka extended his welcom to the delegation and expressed his wish to strengthen cooperation with Sichuan University in scientific research and student exchange programs, etc. On May 10th, the SCU delegation visited Tohoku University, and conducted a successful communication with Executive Vice President of Tohoku University, Prof. Toshiya Ueki and Vice President Masahiro Yamaguchi. Prof. Toshiya Ueki reviewed the cooperation between the two universities and expressed his willingness to further expand the bilateral collaboration on current existing cooperation. The two sides also discussed topics such as multi-disciplinary integration and the integration of medical science and engineering, and exchanged views on promoting cooperation on exchange of faculties, staffs and students. On May 13th, the delegation visited Seoul National University and was warmly welcomed by President OH Se-Jung. The two sides exchanged views on how to strengthen the joint training of students from the two universities, exchange of teachers, and the collaboration of scientific research. The delegation also visited the School of Medicine, Seoul National University. Shin Chansoo, Dean of the School of Medicine, gave a brief introduction of the school and the experience in developing its domestic medical research and offering international medical services. Moreover, the delegation visited “Xi Jinping Study Room” in Seoul University. On May 14th, the delegation visited Yonsei University. Prof. Yong-Hak Kim, President of Yonsei University, highly appreciated the cooperation with SCU, and hoped that the two universities further carry out multi-disciplinary and multi-level cooperation, especially in the field of humanities and social sciences. After the meeting, both presidents signed a Student Exchange Agreement . Meanwhile, a memorandum of cooperation was inked between Huaxi Medical College of SCU and the School of Medicine of Yonsei University. President Li also presented Yonsei University a series of books compiled by SCU.

During the visit in South Korea, the delegation paid a visit to the Chinese Embassy in South Korea. Ambassador Qiu Guohong met with the delegation, and highly affirmed the characteristics and influence of SCU, especially the achievements won in recent years. He expressed his hope that SCU could further strengthen in-depth cooperation and communication with the top universities in South Korea.
