Writer Witi Ihimaera introduces New Zealand’s Literature and Culture to SCU Students
On March 21, 2017, Mr. Witi IhimaeraNew, a famous New Zealand writer and former diplomat, offered a sharing session named Discovering New Zealand Literature in SCU. His lecture was so attractive among the teachers and students of the University that no seat was left in the room.
By means of various forms, such as short films of Maori culture, recitation of self-created poem "Our mother is the earth" and videos of stage creations, Witi Ihimaera vividly showed us the Maori culture and tradition.
When speaking of Sino-New Zealand relation, he hoped that, besides economic and trade cooperation, cultural exchange could function as the bridge for communication and understanding between the people of both counties, especially youngsters and young writers. He had repeatedly said that “Maori is descended from the human ancestors in Africa who migrated into New Zealand through China”.
Record the world you live and dare to speak to the world - This is the enlightenment left by Witi Ihimaera for the students.
