“University Social Responsibility Network” Jointly Launched by Hong Kong PolyU, SCU and other 9 Well-known Universities

On October 8, entrusted by president Heping Xie, vice president Shijing Yan attended the “International Seminar on University’s Social Responsibility cum Inauguration Ceremony of the University’s Social Responsibility Network” held in Hong Kong Polytechnic University. The University’s Social Responsibility Network is jointly established by eleven celebrated domestic and foreign universities such as Sichuan University, Hong Kong Polytechnic University, University of Cambridge, Peking University and Kyoto University, in an effort to propel the development of university social responsibility and build a better world in a joint effort.

Vice president Shijing Yan delivered a keynote speech under the title of “With Determination, Benevolence and Self-cultivation – Cultivate Qualified Social Citizens for the Nation”. Ranging from curriculum setup, mass organizations composed of teachers and students, social service to disaster pre-warning, rescue and rebuilding, etc., he gave a comprehensive introduction about SCU’s multi-tiered talent-cultivation system, dedicated to foster the awareness and ability of students to serve the society.

This international platform of “University’s Social Responsibility Network” will bridge and promote the collaboration between famous universities from across the world. By sharing experiences and resources, its members will gear up cooperation, jointly organize diversified activities rich in content, give a full play to universities and colleges as effective catalysts, and impose a substantial influence to facilitate social development through and beyond teaching, learning, research and social service.

During this seminar, vice president Shijing Yan paid a special visit to experts, scholars of several internationally known universities including Hong Kong Polytechnic University (HKPU), as well as senior management of the Hong Kong Jockey Club, in an effort to expand more channels and seeks more resources to support the development of SCU- HKPU Institute for Disaster Management and Reconstruction.
